What is a Steer Axle?
The Steer Axle is a critical component of a forklift’s steering system. It is the axle to which the steering wheels are attached, allowing the forklift to turn and manoeuvre. The wheels on this axle are controlled by the steering mechanism, typically a steering wheel in the operator’s cab.
When the operator turns the steering wheel, the steer axle responds accordingly, causing the attached wheels to turn and direct the forklift. In most forklift designs, the steer axle is located at the rear of the vehicle. This configuration enables the forklift to pivot around its load, providing excellent manoeuvrability in tight spaces.
