What is a Drive Axle?
The Drive Axle is a crucial part of a forklift’s anatomy, responsible for transferring power from the engine or motor to the drive wheels. Essentially, it is the axle to which the drive wheels (the wheels that propel the forklift) are connected. Depending on the type of forklift, the Drive Axle can be powered by various sources.
In an electric forklift, an electric motor provides the necessary power. Conversely, in a forklift powered by an internal combustion engine, the engine supplies the power. The Drive Axle plays a vital role in the forklift’s movement, enabling it to move forward and backward, and contributing to its overall manoeuvrability and efficiency in material handling operations.
