What are Forklift Tires?

Forklift tires also known as industrial tires are a critical component of forklifts that not only support the weight of the vehicle and its load but also significantly impact its safety and performance. They come in various types, each designed for specific kinds of work environments. These types are:

  • Cushion Tires: These are made from solid rubber and are directly pressed onto the wheel. They are ideal for indoor applications or smooth surfaces, like warehouses, due to their lower cost and longer lifespan. However, they don’t absorb shocks as well as other types.
  • Pneumatic Tires: Similar to car or truck tires, these are filled with air or foam. They offer excellent shock absorption and are more suitable for rugged, uneven outdoor surfaces.
  • Solid Pneumatic Tires: These combine the benefits of cushion and pneumatic tires. They’re made from solid rubber, making them puncture-resistant, but are designed to mimic the shock-absorbing properties of pneumatic tires. They’re great for both indoor and outdoor use and can handle rough terrains.
  • Polyurethane Tires: These are lightweight, provide excellent traction, and are often used on electric forklifts. They’re best for indoor use on smooth surfaces as they don’t absorb shocks very well.

The choice of tire type depends on factors like the work environment, load capacity, expected usage, and budget. Always remember, proper maintenance of forklift tires is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of forklift operations.
